Artists Statement

This current works melds an abstract format with illusions to landscape imagery. References to distant horizons, mountains, buildings, foliage and above all a dramatic sky abound. Special attention is placed in the choice of individual elements which reflect different surface treatments. This special interest mirrors the artist interest in creating surfaces with a high degree of tactility as a opposition to the increasing digital image dominated world we now live in. As wonderful as these new technology produced images are, they simply cannot convey the “feel” of actual surfaces. The artist, however humbly, seeks to expose this failure and to create paintings which engage all our senses, not just the optic nerve by focusing in addition on the sense of touch. Into this mix, references to the rugged high desert terrain of the southwest seep as if pulled by a invisible gravitational force.
